A significant number of our faculty at CSVPA are active artists, designers, researchers, and practitioners within the creative industries. Their extensive, firsthand experience provides our students with invaluable insights into up-to-date industry practices, trends, and challenges, making lessons highly relevant and practical.

Being mentored by these expert lecturers ensures that students are equipped with the skills, mindset and knowledge essential for helping them build a strong foundation for their own careers.

Moreover, these lecturers can offer valuable networking opportunities, advice on portfolio development, and guidance on navigating the competitive nature of creative fields. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical insights creates a dynamic learning environment where our students are better prepared to succeed in the ever-evolving creative industries.

This new blog series highlights the varied and prestigious projects and exhibitions that our teaching faculty are involved in outside of CSVPA.

Martin Andersen, Course Leader for CSVPA’s two MA Visual Communication courses, has 23 pieces of his design and photography work included in a major retrospective exhibition, Rock Pop Underground, at M21 Gallery in Pécs, Hungary.

The Rock Pop Underground exhibition opened on 7th November 2024, as part of the second edition of Hungary’s international graphic design festival, GraphicPécs. Hosted at the m21 Gallery, the exhibition features a thousand works denoting the history of rock, pop, and underground graphic design from 1950 to the present day.

Martin’s work on display includes collaborations with Chris Bigg for artists such as The Breeders, Pixies, Lush, David Sylvain, and Piroshka and personal projects for Piano Magic, Coldharbourstores, July Skies, and Oliver Cherer.

The exhibition demonstrates the massive influence that 1960s counter-culture has had on the international design community over the ensuing 60 years.

The 1960s was a time of unprecedented political and social upheaval, as well as of artistic experimentation. The counter-culture that flourished as a result of this upheaval inspired music that became a key means of expression for committed artists and the younger generation. Graphic designers also drew inspiration from this period with the realisation that their craft holds powerful means of communicating ideas, questioning established norms, and expressing the political, social, and cultural values of the counter-culture. Today, graphic designers draw inspiration from this period while bringing a modern perspective to their work, demonstrating that this form of visual expression continues to evolve and resonate with our times.
