Notes from the Next Generation: Student Winter Music Showcases

Mastering the art of performance in front of a live audience is a crucial skill in becoming a confident and successful musician or performer. At CSVPA, we give our Music Foundation and Extended Diploma students a myriad of opportunities to develop these skills. Our annual Winter Classical Music Recital and Winter Pop Night are two such performance opportunities.

Taking place on Wednesday 4th December in the beautiful setting of the University of Cambridge’s St Catherine’s College Chapel, our classical music students performed to family, friends and their fellow students.

The assembled audience were enchanted as they enjoyed pieces performed by our talented pianists and classical singers, as well as pieces played on the French horn and double bass. This Winter recital occurs each December and our students challenged themselves with the complexity of the pieces they selected to perform. Each piece was received with enthusiasm as students demonstrated their confidence and ability in their individual musical craft.

At CSVPA we offer a one year Music Foundation and a two year Extended Diploma in Music Production & Performance. In each course, students can choose to specialise in one of two tailored music pathways: Classical Performance or Pop Performance & Music Production. For our Pop Performance & Music Production students, they have the opportunity to perform to a live audience at another of our annual events, the much-anticipated Pop Night.

Held at CSVPA, Pop Night took place on Tuesday 3rd December. An energetic and up-beat evening, students performed covers of popular songs, as well as debuted original compositions they have written themselves.

Pop Night is a fantastic opportunity for our students to come together and play as a band, with each of them demonstrating their talents in playing multiple instruments, as well as strong vocal capabilities too. We encourage our students to be proficient in a number of instruments, with weekly one-one-one private tuition in their principal instrument or vocal lessons with expert tutors.

Both our 1-year Music Foundation and a 2-year Extended Diploma in Music Production & Performance are designed to prepare students for progression to competitive music courses at university or Music Conservatoires.
