ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE

At CSVPA we have a dedicated team of English teachers who can support you with your English while you study with us. We also have a dedicated ALS support coordinator, to support students with specific learning difficulties by providing one-on-one support to develop time management and study skills. 

IMPROVING COMMUNICATION SKILLS

English classes take place in a variety of locations in the city centre, conveniently close to where you have your other subjects. English is an essential part of your stay at CSVPA, and students are expected to speak only English at all times in the college buildings.  
 
Achieving the IELTS grade required for university entry is crucial, so all students whose English is not at the appropriate level receive at least 5 hours of English tuition a week. Our English tutors are experienced in preparing students for the IELTS exam. We have worked hard to build an English programme to meet your needs and allow you to become the creative you want to be. 
 
Throughout your time at CSVPA, we provide the support you need to achieve your learning goals. We balance a focus on improving your English to help you live, study, integrate and participate in life in the UK alongside developing the skills you need for academic success. You will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and develop your ability to use English in an academic environment. Your English will become the passport to your future!

ACADEMIC ENGLISH PROGRAM

The Academic English Program is a full-time intensive course, designed for students who do not meet the English language entry requirements to progress directly on to a course at CSVPA.

As a student, you will develop your skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will learn new vocabulary and a basic understanding of grammar, and how to use them in both academic and everyday situations. This programme also provides an introduction to language used the creative arts, and opportunities to develop your critical thinking skills. 
 
On joining the programme you will be placed according to your initial level of English, so you will be in the class most suited to your needs. To make the best use of your time and to get the most out of this course, you are expected to speak English at all times and complete at least 10 hours of self-study each week.

INTEGRATED ENGLISH

For many of our international students, improving your English skills will be an essential part of your stay at CSVPA. For these students getting the right IELTS score is crucial for university entry. Helping you achieve this is a fundamental part of what we do. We put a real emphasis on using English in the studios, as well as making English a key component of daily life at the college. 
 
If your English is not at the appropriate level, we will provide at least 5 hours of English tuition a week. Your timetable will be created to allow you to attend English Classes. Typically, a 2.5 hour long classes taking place twice a week. In addition to this you will be expected to do 2 hours of English homework per week. 

PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH

Our Pre-sessional English programme is a 12-week, intensive course designed for students who wish to progress to our BA, Graduate Diploma and Master’s programmes but have not met the English language level. 

HOW YOUR LEARN

The Pre-Sessional English programme is a full-time course with a combination of face-to-face delivery and guided independent & collaborative tasks and assignments. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

CSVPA Students attending our Pre-sessional English course will have the following outcomes:

  • Develop your ability to listen to lectures and seminars, take notes effectively and ask questions appropriately
  • Participate confidently and appropriately in academic seminars
  • Develop your ability to conduct research
  • Improve your presentation skills & increase your confidence and accuracy when presenting research

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

At the end of the course, you will be assessed in the skills of writing, speaking, listening and reading. Success on the Pre-Sessional course is a requirement for progression to your next course of study with CSVPA.
