LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION GUEST INSPIRES CSVPA FASHION STUDENTS

Many students at CSVPA have their sights set on pursuing creative courses at the University of the Arts London (UAL) and, for our Extended and Foundation Diploma Fashion students, the London College of Fashion (LCF) is where many aspire to continue their educational journeys. To aid them in selecting the best course for them and on how to curate an impactful portfolio, CSVPA invited LCF’s International Academic Coordinator, Conchita Currie, to speak with the students.

The process of applying to university and submitting their portfolios can seem daunting to students. During her visit, Conchita shared valuable insights on how to effectively apply to the London College of Fashion and provided first-hand knowledge on course criteria and tips on choosing the right course.

Conchita guided our students through the nuances of some of LCF’s most popular and competitive courses, these included: BA Fashion Design Menswear, BA Fashion Design Womenswear, BA Hair and Make Up for Fashion, BA Hair & Make Up and Prosthetics for Performance and BA Costume for Performance. This was followed by a Q&A session, where students could have their questions personally answered.

She then sat down with groups and individual students to offer personalised advice on how to best present and structure each of their portfolios. On reviewing our students current work Conchita remarked: “Work I’ve seen so far showed students are being well-prepared for Undergraduate or Pre-degree studies…Lots of 3D experimentation with fabric and materials”. She especially noted that “Students have done some excellent work with lots of lovely 3D work on the mannequins”.

UAL is renowned as one of the top art and design institutions globally, with the London College of Fashion ranking among the top five fashion colleges. Over the past five years, numerous CSVPA students have successfully transitioned into creative courses at LCF such as Textile Design, Fashion Design for Women and Men, and Fashion Contour.

This is just one of the opportunities students benefit from as part of CSVPA’s programme of preparing students for their university applications. CSVPA is incredibly proud of its on-going relationship with UAL – and LCF – and grateful to Conchita for imparting her knowledge and guidance to our students.
